Purple Emperor

National Status: Very much a south east distribution was extinct from the West Midland with just a few sightings each year.  Since introductions in Warwickshire more have been seen. However this is still a BAP species and nationally it shows a downward trend. Recent sightings, Grafton Wood, Weethley Wood and Tiddesley Wood and in a garden in Malvern.

Flight Period:  End of June to July, Single Brood

Wing Span: 75 – 84mm

Larval Foodplant: Goat Willow
